Artist's Description

It is said the expression ‘Puking’ (meaning vomiting) was invented by none other than William Shakespeare
In As You Like It, Act II, Scene vii, Jaques says to Duke Senior.
“They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts,
His acts being seven ages. At first the infant,
Mewling and puking in the nurse’s arms.”

I was amazed how common the image of the Puking Pumpkin is (try googling it) there are even You Tube videos on how to make them.
It’s a funny old world.
This image was taken in the gardens at Erddig, a National Trust Property in North Wales.
