Into the Garden of Iris where my Phoenix Butterfly was born

A blue globe hailed above
As I wiggled myself out of the chasm
The strength of the reservoir of poems not yet harnessed
I slid across unknown territory
Seeking hope to fill my empty bottle
A sweet scent of honey and flower perfume drew me to a meritorious garden
Teeming with fantastical beings tagged with legends personally created
A vast world and vivid, breathing with life and fireflies of stardust
Drinking nectar from the dripping ink of quill pens
That formed stepping stones above the drowning

Pulled here by fate
I met Iris, the Keeper of this nest

Upon one look, my warmth awoke
Her words soothing lullabies
Ignited the flame that fueled the dream cogs
Silently moving with an affinity I had long forgotten
She stretched her hand
In her palm inscribed the psalm 23
The verses glowing in pure red ink

“Welcome to this, my garden, where I have grown that which is most precious.”

Uncertain, I gave in and was shrouded with light
Bouncing off her crown of tears, laughs and floating words
That helped change my rhyme

“I know who you are”, said the flower. “Deep down inside, just as you know who you are but don’t yet realize.”

Her smile was engraved behind my eyelids
Silk threads weaving themselves over shadows
There, I laid
Inside an oval whitish cocoon
At the root of an iris flower beside a bush
That nourished and mended my fragile soul
I slept, not for long, but enough
Crisp water droplets squeezing through purple petals
Knocking on my door
Shell cracked as the crack before dawn
And I emerged as The One She Knew I Knew I Was
The deepest source of me, the Phoenix Butterfly was born
Covered in all the colors of Hope, Faith and Love
A soft breeze nudged me off the fertility beneath the fire that did not burn
She danced with the wind and sang

“…As the butterfly and the Phoenix combined, fly to the sky and bewilder us…”

And I rose
Aimed a kiss to the flower Iris
Whispered secrets of gratitude
And began the long journey back to my own garden
In need of my replenished reservoir of poems

This is for someone really special to me; a woman who helped me reach the breaking point of my metamorphosis. This is for Iris and her beautiful story
My garden, my legacy, I leave to you

This is how I got to her garden in the first place. ;))

Read her story if you haven’t… and drink a little bit of her excellence.

Muchas gracias Iris

I’m your typical young woman who delves in all things artistic… and conventional. Writing is a hobbie—and a preferred one at that. I love music as much as I love reading. Its like breathing. I don’t like false and pretentious people, I’m not quick to anger and I consider myself a dreamer. That’s me in a nutshell, I guess.

OMG!!!! Maria, when I first saw this I put everything on hold, especially my breath. I started to read with anticipation, for I knew this was going to be another beautiful origami created by your quill of delicate, yet powerful “Butterfly Wings”. My heart started fluttering and beating even faster with with each pearl you placed upon my crown. I feel this as a treasure so precious that I am afraid, just as a child who is amazed and in wonder, to pick it up, let it be that it’ll take a fall and break into tiny pieces. I’ll wait until I steady my heart and hands and then I’ll tuck it into my treasure box; my Heart.
You went further with your art, showing how you envision yourself flying free and and me as a beautiful, purple Iris nurturing you. Fly free to your Garden and bewilder us,my dear, and I will always be happy knowing I was able to give Wings to an Angel………..

  • I am sooooo happy that you liked it. I just thought of flower Iris and it just poured out. I didn’t have to edit nothing. My dear, I envision you as a matriarch, leading your children with strength, compassion, love and wisdom; and for that, they love you so much. As do I. You have no idea how your words have helped me. Really, all I needed were words to complete what started in me. You are an angel yourself.

    XOXOXOXOXOX
    love you
    Maria
