Writers who inspire me
For the past few years I have found a lot of joy in reading and writing what can be labeled as micro fiction, short shorts, or flash fiction. Whatever you want to call it I dig short stuff. Some of my favorite writers out there are: Haruki Murakami, Lydia Davis, Mary Gaitskill, Lihn Dihn, Lorrie Moore, Ray Bradbury, and Anton Chekov…to name a few. If anyone has more suggestions for this exciting form of fiction please let me know.

I’m sorry you haven’t received a response thus far X. Yes, I love Ray Bradbury stories too. I have to confess my former addiction to Stephen King, including his short stories – the best collection being Night Shift although Skeleton Crew is pretty good too. I went off his stories at around the Desperation and Geralds Game stage. I think he was trying to hard to outgross himself. I’m inclined to like short stories of Twilight Zone ilk and usually grab off beat collections here and there but have in my collection Conan-Doyle, Poe, Woolrich, Pynchon and Mansfield to name a few. Mind you I can’t bare to part with books and I have every single one from Lit studies so quite a library. (Love the Woolrich one to death – fantastic stories including, of course, Rear Window). Also a rather large two volume Readers Digest on Crime and Suspense.
Anyway, hope you’re enjoying your time on RedBubble and in Flash Fiction.
Cheers

Thank you for the suggestions, I will definitely check out some of those authors. I myself have quite a library I’m always looking to expand.
I’m glad I found redbubble this is a cool place to exchange ideas and creativity. Thanks again

one of my favorites is harlan ellison. he wrote companion pieces to a series of paintings, both of which are collected in a book is called mind fields
he usually writes short stories, which are brilliant, but i don’t think they qualify as flash fiction. then again, i don’t know much about flash fiction.
neil gaiman has written a few, my favorites are nicholaus was… and his 30 second horror story, which you should really listen to instead of read.

Ah, another who digs the depths of the shallows…
These contemporary authors and collections have a few short shorts amongst them but really are worth checking out as a whole. Hope you find as much as I did.
Dave Eggers. How We Are Hungry.
Miranda July. no one belongs here more than you.
Etgar Keret. The Nimrod Flipout.
A.M Holmes. The Safety of Objects.
Michel Faber. Some Rain Must Fall.
Man, I’m almost weeping with pleasure just writing the titles. Time to scoot off for a re-read.
Jamie Fraser
I’d suggest I, Robot by Isaac Asimov (technically a novel but more of a short story collection) if you like Ray Bradbury. Also if your interested, check out a couple of my bradbury-inspired stories.
