An Ode to Nothing

A riddle in the form of an alphabetical poem.

An absence or perhaps a void
But bigger yet, as you will see
Concept rich but hardly there
Do you guess what it may be?

Each of you has seen its face
Familiar it must seem
Giants, yet, of ages past
Had missed its quiet gleam

It holds a place for others
Judged worthless by itself
Killing time it sits there waiting
Lined up to count one’s wealth

Multiple times it does resist
Not changing once its face
On to others adding nothing
Positive and certain of its place

Quick off the mark in counting
Round girth but empty within
Same in height as all its neighbours
Taller yet than its literary twin

Under alias a game it plays
Vanquishing its foe
Will it grab itself a victory, from
X in tic tac toe?

You know it’s name?
Zero

I really like, very elegantly constructed with charming and natural ryhymes and a nice bit of tension
