Rue de la Cité is located on Île de la Cité (an island on the river Seine) in central Paris. The imposing building at end of the street is the The Palais de Justice, or the Law Courts. It is built on the site of the former royal palace of Saint Louis. The Palais also contains the ancient structure of the Conciergerie, a former prison, where Marie Antoinette was imprisoned before being executed on the guillotine.
