Sunrise On The Saltpans

The little boxes cut in the rock in the foreground are old saltpans. This is where the Maltese used to make salt by pouring seawater in the pans, let it dry and gather the salt. It’s a labour intensive way of producing salt.

    I know the place my friend. You see that rock jutting out to sea in the background just about 30mm from the right edge of the picture. I’ve caught quite a few banded breams just from behind it.

    You must be pulling my leg my friend. This place is only 5 kilometers from where I live, and only just about 3 kilometers as the crow flies!. BTW, the salt pans are still in use. The owner (whom I’ve known since childhood) still harvests the salt. The small hut just at the back from where you took this picture, is used by him during the summer to keep watch over the saltpans and the mounds of gathered salt.

    now this is what i call pleasant and effective HDR. Prosit Xandru. Hadn’t you mentioned that this was hdr processed I would not have guessed. Infact nowadays we see so many IMO grossly enhanced pics the they seem unrealistic. THIS IS A REAL WINNER AS MALTESE SUNSETS DO ACTUALLY TURN UP SUCH COLOURS.
