Probably the most photographed part of Slovenia. Lake Bled with its island and church are famous for their fairy-tale beauty. The present Church of the Assumption was built in the 17th century and the vicarage a hundred years later. But there are vestiges that date much earlier.

That day we wanted to walk round this natural lake, a leisurely walk of some 6 hours. It was beautiful scenes all the way. I must have taken more than 200 photos on that hike alone.

    i dont know where r u from but i lived in former yugoslavia for a while….as a kid…and visited bled…that goes back like 50 years ago…lol…WONDERFUL and beautiful scene and photo…well composed…

    Lake Bled … what a beautiful image. I believe from your description that I may have incorrectly named the church on the island on an image I have uploaded. ?

    In my description I should have said the Assumption of Mary, which means the rising of St Mary to heaven. So, the description you gave to your image is also correct. Thanks for the comments and your visit.

    My favourite place in the world …. or is it Petra in Jordan. I fell in love with Slovenia and Lake Bled. I yhink it was the place where I first started to think of my camera beyond keeping a record of where I had been.
    This image has stirred such happy memories for me. My tour included a boat tripl across to thr ilandf and a visit to the Bled Caste. And even I was able to take a couple of reasonable images,.
    This one of your s is so very beautiful … so peaceful and serene. Thank you!
