Artist's Description

Portrait of great Columbian footballer Carlos Valderama

The nickname ‘El Pibe’, in translation means the boy or the kid. This is a tribute to his flamboyant nature on the football pitch. The five to nil victory that Columbia achieved over Argentina in the world cup qualification game in 1993 is still spoken of in football circles. For his part in this victory, as the team’s Capitan, ‘El Pibe’ earned his place in football folklore.
The style in which this picture was done in borrowed heavily from Roy Lichtenstein’s pop art style.
