Artist's Description

Vector illustration of two girls playing dart balloon gane at a carnival. From a series “SUNSET ON THE SMALL TOWN CARNIVAL”. Owing to the rise of mega-parks and high liability insurance, small town carnivals are rapidly disappearing. Whenever possible i try to document this vanishing icon of the Twentieth Century American landscape

The image was shot in 2004 just after I got my first DSLR. It was my first attempt at night photography. I was using ambient light with a flash fill. I took the flash off the camera and pointed it in different directions trying to use the light, but make the shadows more natural.

In post production I used a combination of drawing and tracing tools. I don’t have model releases, so I redrew the characters to render them unrecognizable. In post production I first created the illustration as a vector in AI. Next I rasterized the illustration in PS at 300dpi which significantly reduced the file size but completely retained the look. I reopened the PS 300dpi back in AI and saved it as a vector again so it could be blown up to any size and not lose resolution.
