Barred Owl (poor little bird with a broken wing) by

I left the farm this afternoon to head into Ottawa, just down the road from the farm I saw a Barred owl perched at ground level on the side of the road. I had my camera handy and took a few pics and noticed that he was very young and seemed to be injured. Another vehicle pulled up and that startled the poor little guy and he started to walk away dragging a wing. What a bummer, I got back in my car turned around and returned to the farm where I picked up a big box a blanket and a towel and pair of work gloves. I returned and within 2 minutes had the Owl safely tucked away in the box. I drove the hour and 20 minutes to Ottawa and brought him to the Wild Bird Care Center. The initial examination is that the Owlet has sustained a broken humerous bone, prognosis is that if the break is close to the joint than in all likely hood he will not recover and will be euthanized, however if the break is in the middle then he should recover in less than a month. There is also a good chance that they will release it to the area that I found it at. My fingers are crossed and I shall update once I know more,,,,

Great that you acted quickly Wayne. He/she does look young and desperate. Hopefully the break is in the middle and the WBC can help him mend. It seems more and more Owls showing up with broken bones…usually from collisions with cars…And a nicely documented image here as well ………
