Red-winged Blackbird

Glossy black male has red shoulder patches broadly tipped with buffy yellow. This abundant, aggressive species is often found in immense flocks in winter. Generally nests in thick vegetation of fresh water marshes, sloughs, dry fields; forages in surrounding fields, orchards, woodlands.
