Artist's Description

Detail of the Old Head Post Office, reflected in a rain puddle at the Nieuwezijds Voorburgwal in Amsterdam.

The Old Head Post Office was designed by government architect P.C. Peters (1874-1932), who was known for creating ornate buildings such as this neo-Gothic / neo-Renaissance delight. It was built in 1899.

In 1993 the Old Head Post Office began a second life as an inner-city shopping mall (Amsterdam’s first!) ~ Magna Plaza. It belongs to the Top 100 Dutch heritage sites
