    The fire of liberation is a Dutch national symbol commemorating the end of World War II on May 5, 1945.
    In Wageningen (Holland), the Germans signed their surrender on May 5, 1945.
    The fire is lit every year on May 5 (Liberation Day) at 0.00 am on “May 5 Square”, Wageningen.
    The lighting of the flame of liberation in a city or village means the start of the Liberation Festivals – in Gouda at 13.00 pm.
