Harvesting the grain in Holland usually happens with big agricultural machinery. Very occasionally it still happens the old fashioned way: with the scythe.
This photo is taken during my holiday last August in ‘De Achterhoek’. The Achterhoek is a region in the eastern part of the Netherlands. One day I made a bike hike. On my way to Bronkhorst, the smallest town of the Netherlands, I came through a small hamlet (called Rha), where they still had been harvested the grain by hand.

Rha is also known for its significant memorial to the fallen Canadian soldiers of The Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada, an infantry regiment of the Canadian Forces Reserve, in the Second World War.
