Leaping Lizards!!! Lunch on the Fly! What a great shot ! You had to be on your toes to get this one. Not easy to get them directly overhead is it? I have nearly fallen on my bottom trying it! Very nicely done.
William Greenf... replied
No not easy at all. With this one I was able to watch him over an extended period of time and them lay on they in an area in witch I had I fairly good chance of him flying over. Him Getting the Lizard when and where he did so I could Photograph the kill was just pure luke.
thank you for your kind comment and don’t hurt yourself when (if) you fall over

Nice shot great timing, and just so you know this is a Nankeen Kestrel, a member of the falcon family, and most likely a male.

Brilliant capture, but this isn’t a Peregrine as previously stated in the comments. The patterning from the underside is absent, and Peregrines hunt almost exclusively on birds.
This is a Nankeen (or Australian) Kestrel Falco cenchroides. These birds are similar to the common kestrel Falco tinnunculus but slightly smaller and tend to take smaller prey, such as the lizard in this image.

Second visit, and I still find it a brilliant catch (as well as a fascinating bird). Very good!
