Misty Morn by WTBird

Throw Pillows

Available to buy on…

This photo was taken in Marianna, Florida (USA) on film as I went to work early one morning. The bluishness of the photo is due to the fog. It is a once in a lifetime shot and I am not sure the image online will do it justice. It was the first photo I ever sold and the most requested. It was taken with film…probably Kodachrome 64 or 25 using an Argus SLR camera with a 50mm lens. The Spanish Moss on the trees blend with the fog making the trees even more other-worldly.

Nice work has an eerie feel to it, am wondering how it would look in b/w…gina

  • Virginia…I do not believe I have attempted to look at this through B&W eyes yet. I am such a color freak …even though some are quite monotoned…that I have difficulty seeing something in black and white. I found out early that I am NO Ansel Adams! Thank you for your comments.

Totally agree – this kind of image is not likely to be ‘found’ again… amazing :)))

  • Took a look at your photos which seem to reflect the dark side a bit. Do you see that in this foggy shot? It is lonely and somewhat mystic due to the fog. I have been out on that body of water when I could barely see the other end of the boat and you wonder what is ahead. I will confess that I took this photo back about 1964 with my first SLR camera and I had no idea what I was doing. I am a much more accomplished photographer today but I have never been able to match that one photo again.

  • Susan…thank you for your comments on my photo, Misty Morn. But not nearly so haunting as your paintings! Fascinating.

Great image, colour and perspective. I like it a lot.

  • Ron: I see a definite sign of patterns and angles in your photos on your site. I do like that. You may find this of interest in this particular shot that you commented on. I took it back about 1964 or 1965 with my first SLR and had no idea what I was doing. I am a much more accomplished photographer now than then…but I have never done anything to match the acclaim this one photo has brought me. The odd thing you may be interested in is that I took two shots. One with the boat coming out of the very middle of the bottom of the photo. At that time I thought symetrical was best. The other came out of the lower left corner putting the boat in the lower left quarter of the shot. When I began exhibiting…I first used the center shot and it did little or nothing. One day I just decided to use the other one…instant hit. I had to look to see what other saw because I am self-taught and learn the hard way. So angles and placement has been the name of the game ever since.

    What a wonderful shot!!

  • Helene: What wonderful colors in the patterns of your art. They are lovely to look at. Makes one feel good just to see them. Thank you for your comment on my Misty Morn shot. Taken years ago..I’ve done nothing to equal it since.

    Beautiful blues tones. Well done.

  • Jay: Thank you for your comment on my photo “Misty Morn”. If the Clearwater is the one I know…in Florida…then your photos show you are well traveled. I lived most of my life in Florida and am within about 30 minutes of the state now. Went there yesterday to take photos of a family of white squirrels near Sopchoppy, FL. Thanks again for taking the time to look and comment.

Reminds me of The Lady of the Lake….

  • “Reminds me of The Lady of the Lake….” Wish I could see the lady. I took this probably before you were born and although I am a much more accomplished photographer now I have done nothing to match it for the acclaim it has brought me. Thank you so much for taking the time to view the photo and to comment on it.

    A perfect capture

  • Anne: Your art has a very mystic feel to it as well. This one “Misty Morn” has brought me more acclaim than any other I have done…and I did it over 40 years ago. Although a much more accomplished photographer now…I’ve done nothing to equal it. Thanks for taking the time to view it and comment on it. It won 4th place in Photographer’s Forum/Canon Photo Contest in Calif a couple years back out of about 20,000 I think they said. I wish I could have seen the first three places. I thought they would send me a copy of the magazine but they did not.
