It crawls inside when
We’re not looking
It will wrap and thread
Around our vacant veins
And surface through taste buds
Before we bleed
From the strain in our bones
The burn in our throat
And the salt in our eyes
It freezes us over
To where we will spread
Our fingers across our chest
To make sure it holds more than air
That our rib-cage does not crumble
Under the weight of lonely
Leaving scattered pieces
That can’t be put back together
