Goodbye, Ana
I was hesitant about posting this up on RB, not sure how people will take it. I actually found this in an old notebook. I wrote it for an English project. We had to pick and research a social issue and present it to the class. We also had to write a short story, song, or poem to go along with the presentation and I picked a poem. I think eating disorders are something that everyone knows about but don’t always talk about. I think people should talk about it. There’s always people out there willing to listen.

Up and down in a curved wasteland
Her throat burns with hunger
While strands of hair fall by her feet
Her stomach growls ravenously
But Ana will not let her eat
Empty is strong, Ana coos
Your insides are clean; perfect
When her walls crumble into
Tiny fragments; much too small
To be put back together again,
Ana is there to wipe the tears away,
Ana knows where her secrets lay
Little white lies rest underneath her skin
Being stretched across her porcelain frame
You need this, murmurs Ana
Thin is so much more tasteful
Ana smiles at how tiny she becomes
But her veins are blue and hollow
The stars that used to settle on the
Tips of her eyelashes are suppressed
Her limbs start to rot and decay
Friends don’t let friends die,
Ana, this is Goodbye.

Very sad. I was anorexic as a teenager. Now I would say the opposite is true. Either way it’s an eating disorder. 99% of the time anorexics die…..thank you for sharing. x

Thank you for reading. So glad you weren’t part of that 99% xx

this is freaking amazing. It really hits home. As a teen, i was anorexic. man, i almost killed myself; my body took a long time to recover. but that was it. i had zero control over my life, and that was STRONG. I was using my will in the only place i could: my body. I was addicted to exercise, too. i was a mess. this is amazing, love, K :)
Vivian F replied
I’m glad you liked it and I definitely understand that; losing control in everything else only makes us want to control the only thing we have left. You’re a strong person for getting through that. xx

This is a powerful poem about a topic that as you say, some people prefer not to talk about but it is there, killing a lot of people, especially girls and young women. It is a disease and the person neeeeeds to be helped, because usually she will not want to be helped and will not be capable of doing it on her own. Glad you put this in the light. Great job and if there is other information that you could post on other subjects that you think might help others, don’t hesitate. Write it, others might not like it, but others will appreciate it. Thanks for sharing. Iris

This topic has been issued here in RB more than once. But just for the eyes of the beholders.
I am beholder…and can say tat the way you have described the problem, the moment, the soul of the victims is there. Right there. Raw….and with an impeding state for loving and accepting onself.
I can see beyond the words…. and transcend your vision.
It is clear.. lies and suffering…. evidences of selfdestroying body, as if inspiring the whole vacuum…. trying to remain pure… disconected from other’s control.. the supreme power over our own body.
And yet…. is madness…
and yet….is real…
and yet….is close.

Powerful poetry on a subject I relate to only too well. Thankfully I am stronger now. This is a sad reality in life and a real disease that people need help contending with. It has a strength and hold that is hard to defeat. Brilliantly expressed! Love C xoxo

This is awe inspiring. What you have done here is beautiful, you have written it in such a way that it is personal to every reader
Did you know that they wont teach about anorexia in south australian schools, I am doing yr 12 nurtition this year, and the teacher said that we must teach ourselves about it, as too many girls and boys become anorexic after studying the subject.
Dont let that put you off, i believe that we should learn as much as we can about the subject, to be able to curb the issue with the most information posible as our weapons.
Vivian F replied
Yes, I think we should learn as much as we can about it. It’s quite interesting actually, I think most people think that eating disorders are the result of a twisted and plastic society (which is sometimes true) but the reasons are much more deeper and I do think more people should be aware of that. Thank you so much for reading. I’m glad you liked it. x
