Explosions In The Sky
Explosions In The Sky is one of my favorite bands of all time (if you haven’t listened to them, you should). “Your Hand In Mine” is probably one of my favorite songs by them and so I decided to write this. Because this is exactly how I feel every time I listen to it. It’s not the best thing I ever written, but that’s alright.

Your heart in your throat. The wind between the strands of your hair.
The expanding wings in your ribcage.
It’s the gentle jolts of electricity when you touch the surface of the water.
It’s the comfort when you’re deep under. The coldness leaving your body.
It’s the way the soft, yet firm blades of grass graze the space between
your fingers. It’s how you run until your lungs burn and you’re finally alive.
It’s the way you’re so content, it brings tears to your eyes.
It’s how you walk outside after the rain has made it’s mark.
Where the world is wet and the smell of moist trees lifts you high.
It’s the arms of a Mother when you scrape your knee.
How you finally got the swing to swing without the push.
The day you didn’t need to think about what to write, because the pen knew.
The day your Father tells you how proud he is under his breath.
When your Sister writes a short story of how you’re her Role Model.
When you didn’t have to wait hours by the phone.
Or when after waiting, you pick up on the first ring to hear that familiar voice.
It’s the song you sing when you sleep.
The sun you see when you wake.
The waves that wish to swallow you, and the way you let them.
It’s the small, instant, and eternal moment you know you’re in love.
This is how Your Hand In Mine makes me feel.
