Mockingbirds are very social birds and young mockingbirds are sometimes seen playing with other birds. Siblings often play with each other as well. If captured when young and raised by humans, mockingbirds may also play with humans upon gaining familiarity with them. Older mockingbirds tend to stay alone for the most part. Mockingbirds sometimes “babysit” fledglings that are not their own by perching on a rooftop or a tree and watching the young bird from a distance. They will even come and have a “conversation” with the young. This lone male had a conversation with me as he sang constantly during our photo shoot.

I’ve always appreciated nature, but I didn’t show interest in photography until digital started to come into it’s own. I had many cheap cameras over the years, but when I got the Nikon D3100 for my birthday last year, I really started to realize what photography was all about. I’ve had such a blast learning on the go over the past 10 months. I’ve gotten shots that I could have only dreamed of a year ago. I hope you all enjoy my photos, and by all means, BUY SOMETHING! =)

Fabulous shot and interesting info. I would love to see (and hear) one of these beauties :)

  • Their song is beautiful, but they tend to sing at odd hours of the day and even at night, so sleeping can be a problem if you have one nesting in a tree near your house. LOL. Thanks for the nice comment Renee. =)
