I've Got Legs...I Know How To Use Them... by

Subject: North American Millipede
Location: Rockaway, NJ, USA
Equipment: Nikon D3100 w/105mm macro lens
Check Out All Those Legs LARGE

Millipedes are arthropods that have two pairs of legs per segment (except for the first segment behind the head which does not have any appendages at all, and the next few which only have one pair of legs). Each segment that has two pairs of legs is a result of two single segments fused together as one. They eat decaying leaf matter and enjoy dark, moist areas. They can roll into an armored coil as a defense against predators. If that fails, they can emit a toxic, bad smelling chemical that also does the job. This four inch long beauty had 160 legs!!

I’ve always appreciated nature, but I didn’t show interest in photography until digital started to come into it’s own. I had many cheap cameras over the years, but when I got the Nikon D3100 for my birthday last year, I really started to realize what photography was all about. I’ve had such a blast learning on the go over the past 10 months. I’ve gotten shots that I could have only dreamed of a year ago. I hope you all enjoy my photos, and by all means, BUY SOMETHING! =)
