Halloween Pennant dragonflies are a very common dragonfly to the Eastern United States. Their fluttering wing movements often get them confused with butterflies. They often perch at the top of high grass or wheat stalks that sway in the wind. They themselves sway in the wind like a pennant (a flag), hence their name. This stunning red male decided to hang around on my finger for a while. I took this in my back yard in Rockaway, NJ USA with the Nikon D3100 and the Nikon 105mm macro lens.
