A bird almost universally considered “cute” thanks to its oversized round head, tiny body, and curiosity about everything, including humans. The chickadee’s black cap and bib; white cheeks; gray back, wings, and tail; and whitish underside with buffy sides are distinctive. Its habit of investigating people and everything else in its home territory, and quickness to discover bird feeders, make it one of the first birds most people learn. It was no different for me. I instantly recognized the chickadee a few years back when I started to show interest in nature photography. These spirited, courageous little birds never fail to put a big smile on my face. This little guy was only about five feet away from me. He was mesmerized by my bird call CD. I took this in my back yard in Rockaway, NJ USA with my Nikon D3100 and the 70-300mm zoom lens.
