Halloween pennant dragonflies are very plentiful in NJ. They are often confused with butterflies due to their erratic, fluttering flight patterns. They get their name “Pennant” from their habit of perching at the very top of a twig and swaying in the breeze like a flag. This female was fighting with the wind, but managed to hold on. I’ll miss my little dragonfly friends. Soon there will be none and I’ll have to wait until next spring. I captured this little beauty in my front yard in Rockaway, NJ USA. I used my Nikon D3100 and the 85mm macro lens.
