The coloring of different species of Grasshopper are often dependent on environment. Many species are adapted to green fields and forests, and blend in well there to avoid predators. Others have adapted to drier, sandy environments and blend in well with the colors of dry dirt and sand. Grasshoppers are everywhere, but we miss most of them due to their ability to blend in to their environment. If this guy hadn’t moved, I may have overlooked him. I took this on the shore of Lake Telemark in Rockaway, NJ. I used a Nikon Coolpix L110 digital camera.

I’ve always appreciated nature, but I didn’t show interest in photography until digital started to come into it’s own. I had many cheap cameras over the years, but when I got the Nikon D3100 for my birthday last year, I really started to realize what photography was all about. I’ve had such a blast learning on the go over the past 10 months. I’ve gotten shots that I could have only dreamed of a year ago. I hope you all enjoy my photos, and by all means, BUY SOMETHING! =)

    Just blends right in!!

  • I was trying to shoot a dragonfly and I saw his leg move out of the corner of my eye. If he hadn’t, I probably wouldn’t have noticed him. :)
