A gorgeous male Barn Swallow. Taken in Rockaway, NJ. by

Barn swallows are the most widespread species of swallows in the world. It has blue upper parts, a long, deeply forked tail and curved, pointed wings. It is a bird of open country which normally uses man-made structures to breed and consequently has spread with human expansion. It builds a cup nest from mud pellets in barns or similar structures and feeds on insects caught in flight. These guys come back to Lake Telemark in Rockaway, NJ every year. One pair nests under a small bridge, while this pair make their nest under the metal staircase of the lake clubhouse. This fence post is a favorite spot for them to rest.

I’ve always appreciated nature, but I didn’t show interest in photography until digital started to come into it’s own. I had many cheap cameras over the years, but when I got the Nikon D3100 for my birthday last year, I really started to realize what photography was all about. I’ve had such a blast learning on the go over the past 10 months. I’ve gotten shots that I could have only dreamed of a year ago. I hope you all enjoy my photos, and by all means, BUY SOMETHING! =)
