Found this on an old Sitka Spruce that became a nurse log long ago, from the looks of things.

20% of the proceeds from the sale of this work will be donated to Oregon Trout, a statewide conservation group working to restore freshwater health and habitat through innovation and education.

    Way cool, Wesley! It does look like some abstract piece. You should consider submitting this to the “Textures and Materials” group and perhaps the “Mysteries of the Common” group, too. What’s a nurse log?

    Thanks Felicia…I’ll look into those groups. A nurse log is formed when a tree falls and becomes the source for new growth. A young Douglas Fir was literally growing on top of one section of this log.

    Thanks Ginger. Nurse logs are pretty interesting to behold and obviously an essential component to the ecosystem in the northwest :)
