Days Gone By
Sauvie Island, situated ten miles north of Portland, Oregon, is an essential part of a wetland system along the Columbia River that’s used by thousands of migratory birds. Winter and spring brings an array of migrant visitors, like Sandhill Cranes, Bald Eagles, and Arctic Terns, in search of rest and food. There are numerous full-time residents, too, like Purple Martins, Orioles and Wood Ducks, any of which may have used this battered old box hanging from its gnarled old Locust during Days Gone By.
All proceeds from the sale of this work will be donated to Oregon Trout, a statewide conservation group working to restore freshwater health and habitat through innovation and education.
Days Gone By belongs to the following groups:
Animal Kingdom, Art for Conservation, Farms and Countryside, Human and Nature, Landscape Photography, Pacific Northwest , Rusty, Crusty and Falling to Bits, United States and Western United States Artists and Photographers Available for sale asGreeting Cards, Matted Prints, Laminated Prints, Mounted Prints, Canvas Prints and Framed Prints

I like this shot, Wesley, but there is something about it that gives me a sense of uneasiness- in the color I think. I agree with one of your earlier comments about it creating a story in the mind. To me, this seems like the opening shot of a film about a small little town that appears sleepy and calm but where something is about to go horribly wrong- something like “Cape Fear”. Weird what we each get out of these things, isn’t it?
Wesley Picotte replied
Thanks Felicia. That is interesting. I felt the juxtaposition between this old and gnarled tree and the really pleasant sunset that was occurring, and somewhere in between, the birdbox’s story. So…glad you got more than ‘it’s a picture’ out of it :)
