Artist's Description

This robber fly (Laphria genus) is a bubble-bee mimic and feeds on bees and other prey by injecting them with neurotoxic and proteolytic enzymes. In this image, it appears to be in the final stages of extracting the dissolved tissue out of a bee. The bee’s head is pointing in the same direction as the robber fly’s head…please click the image for a larger view.
