It was late on a November afternoon when I had driven back in the hills of Pine Knob Ky. I was looking for an isolated home that lies on a private lake that may be for sale. Since I didn’t know the area, I didn’t want to venture too far from the car. It was only a few years ago that our local librarian was killed by a pack of wild dogs when she went out in the country by herself to photograph an old abandoned house or school, I never knew which one for sure. I have also had to make a quick retreat from aggressive dogs, back to the the safety of my car on more than one occasion. I have even had one dog leap up on the car and try to get in by the window. Always keep my windows rolled up when I am getting out of the car after that.
I had called out to see if anyone was around to hear me or to answer questions as to where the property was that I was looking for. Also I figured that if I made enough noise that if any dogs that could be a threat to me would hopefully start to bark and I could quickly get back into my car. I was at the bottom of a long steep hill when I actually felt the intense stare that I was about to encounter. She never made a sound or flinched a muscle, just stayed frozen with that stare. I had started up the hill when I spotted her & quickly backed down the hill never taking my eyes of her. She was magical! I took a few photos of her once I was back at the bottom of the hill and near my car. Then I left. As I was driving back down the gravel road in the hills some man in a jeep came flying up at me! I just waved and kept going. I guess since there is only one way in or out of the place people notice someone that is not from that area and check you out.
