Fred flew twice to Norway to bomb the Tirpitz once via Russia.
Got the DFM for shooting an Me109 down on the way.
Fred won the raffle for me to do a painting and insisted I painted him and his wife in front of a Lancaster rear turret. This was my first attempt at portraits. His wife asked to have her wrinkles removed and to take Fred’s glasses off after I’d finished. As a little gimmick I painted a ghostly Fred, in the turret looking out which they liked, thanks heavens.
