"Biggles" by Woodie
Clear

James Bigglesworth, nicknamed Biggles, was the creation of “Captain” WE Johns, ex RFC pilot in WW1 (1914-18).
See here for all the details.
I don’t know if he did have a RAF style handlebar moustache?!
This is drawn in cheap coloured pencils on A4+ paper for our local ART Club’s, monthly competition of a character from fiction. This was my obvious choice !!LOL

My main interest is painting Aviation Art.
I get a lot of enjoyment researching the historical background behind the picture I’ve been commissioned to paint.
I work in acrylic on my big paintings on canvas board but use water colors, pastels, soft and oil, for smaller pieces.
I also enjoy doing pet portraits in soft pastels on tinted paper, from photographs. Ideal presents for Xmas and birthdays.

Oh, just way too good, Neil!! Biggles in the flesh, to be sure. I love this, cheap coloured pencils & all.

  • Thanks Sheila,
I don’t know if he had a handlebar tash or not but he ought to of. Cheap children’s coloured pencils bought to try something different. I think I’ll go back to pastel!
    Cheers neil

Brilliant, used to adore Biggles books, love it x

  • Thanks Pauline
I think Biggles was the first proper “Boys” book I read just after the war 1946/7. I joined the RAF in1952.
I’ve only got one Biggles book and that is a 2nd edition printed in 1952.

By the chin, I thought it was Bruce Forsyth in another life. What a delightful portrait Neil!

  • Thanks Margaret,
I was trying to drawn like you but these cheap pencils don’t seem to give the same effect.
