This was the first car that I bought in 1963 when I returned from Australia where I’d learnt to drive.
In 1961 I only took a written driving test and the only rule was “Give way to the right at a junction”
The engine was a 100E, 1172cc side valve. I fitted twin SU carbs too try and improve performance.

My main interest is painting Aviation Art.
I get a lot of enjoyment researching the historical background behind the picture I’ve been commissioned to paint.
I work in acrylic on my big paintings on canvas board but use water colors, pastels, soft and oil, for smaller pieces.
I also enjoy doing pet portraits in soft pastels on tinted paper, from photographs. Ideal presents for Xmas and birthdays.

Ah yes, cars had character in those days! So did you have to sit a proper test to drive in the UK? Lovely set of wheels Neil!

  • Yes, on my return from Oz I took a UK driving test in Bournemouth. Passed first time of course!!LOL
Then they brought out “give way to the right” at round-a-bouts in the UK.
    Thanks Neil

What a cool car Neil – don’t you wish you still had it!!! :)

  • Thanks Karen
I’d rather of kept my 1963 Mark 1 Ford Cortina GT in British Racing Green with a White Lotus flash down the side.
    I’ve still got a Ford.
    Cheers Neil
