My grandfather, Norman Godfrey, arrowed, was a joiner all his working life in the coal mines of Northumberland.
Apparentley he got the job as a carpenter, at the new Nelson Village Pit, near Cramlington, because he was the only one capable fof making a staircase for the new manager’s house from scratch!!
The young lads would of been sons of men already working at the pit. I suspect these men/boys are tradesmen/apprentices, mechanics, fitters, blacksmiths, electricians.
FEATURED in both “Days Gone By” and “the Family Album” groups 17th May 2010
Featured in “Hats and Hat Boxes” 21 July 2010
