My main interest is painting Aviation Art.
I get a lot of enjoyment researching the historical background behind the picture I’ve been commissioned to paint.
I work in acrylic on my big paintings on canvas board but use water colors, pastels, soft and oil, for smaller pieces.
I also enjoy doing pet portraits in soft pastels on tinted paper, from photographs. Ideal presents for Xmas and birthdays.

Very nice, Neil! Unless I’m much mistaken, it’s a GR. MkII series IA… Or the equivalent MkV.

  • It had the larger improved tail but still had the Merlin engines.
58 was in Coastal Command during the war.
I was on 58 sqdn servicing PR 3 & 7 Canberras in the 50s. It was Bomber Command then.
    Cheers Neil

Yes, the MkII Series IA kept the Merlins, but used the perspex bombardier’s bubble and turret layout of the later MkIII, with the square fins. The Series I had the triangular ones, with all the attendant stability problems… Funny how most aircraft worked best with Merlins, but the Halibag needed Bristol Hercules to be any good. Exactly the opposite of the Lanc!

  • The Halifax had an interesting history of developement compared to the Lanc and had many roles besides bombing.
