106 Sqdn bomb up (Admiral Prune) by

W/C Guy Gibson was CO of 106 Sqdn before he commanded 617 Dambuster Sqdn. He often flew in “Admiral Prune” from RAF Syerston.
As I was RAF ground crew I’ve painted a lot of dispersal scenes as without the ground crew no plane can fly!!
This scene show a change in bomb load as the air crew wouldn’t be out there at this time. It looks like mines are being loaded.

My main interest is painting Aviation Art.
I get a lot of enjoyment researching the historical background behind the picture I’ve been commissioned to paint.
I work in acrylic on my big paintings on canvas board but use water colors, pastels, soft and oil, for smaller pieces.
I also enjoy doing pet portraits in soft pastels on tinted paper, from photographs. Ideal presents for Xmas and birthdays.

Have your aircraft paintings ever been published anywhere Neil? They are so amazing.

  • I’ve tried but they appear to be not good enough.
I still enjoy doing commissions and the research that involves.
    Cheers Neil

Excellent work, love all the detail.

  • Thanks Nigel,
This was one of my first a/c painting. Being ex-RAF ground crew, on Lincolns, the kit, MT driver, tractor etc hadn’t changed much from my days, mid 1950s.
