617Sqdn Dam Raid, "P" for Popsy by

Wing Commander Guy Gibson, CO of 617 sqdn, returns after he dropped his bouncing bomb to distract the flak from P for Popsy during its run.
“P” for Popsy was flown by F/L “Mick” Martin on this raid, of which 5 were Australians. May 1943.
This was painted in 1982 when there was not much info and photos for ref.
This idea from a Robert Taylor print about 2″ × 3″ big.
Dec 2009, Richard Todd, who played Gibson in the film, Dambusters, died.
NEW image thanks to Richard Veal uprating the resolution and sharpness

My main interest is painting Aviation Art.
I get a lot of enjoyment researching the historical background behind the picture I’ve been commissioned to paint.
I work in acrylic on my big paintings on canvas board but use water colors, pastels, soft and oil, for smaller pieces.
I also enjoy doing pet portraits in soft pastels on tinted paper, from photographs. Ideal presents for Xmas and birthdays.
