“Friday the 13th” Halifax nose art.
As Ye So(w), So Shall Ye Reap,(Reap the Whirlwind)
Built from scratch at the Yorkshire Air Museum a few years ago as Friday the 13th.

This Halibag completed 128 “ops” (operational sorties, a bomb for each op) by VE day. Most ops for a Halifax. Flown by 158 Sqdn and did 4 tours of 30 ops each and by then had undergone two “majors” inspections and flown 550 hours.

My main interest is painting Aviation Art.
I get a lot of enjoyment researching the historical background behind the picture I’ve been commissioned to paint.
I work in acrylic on my big paintings on canvas board but use water colors, pastels, soft and oil, for smaller pieces.
I also enjoy doing pet portraits in soft pastels on tinted paper, from photographs. Ideal presents for Xmas and birthdays.

Where was this taken Woody, I thought only the nose art survived of this Halifax.

  • Hi Steve,
You are right. The original nose art is the only thing to survive from Friday the 13th but the Yorkshire Air Museum, at Elvington near York, has scratch built a full scale Halifax bomber. (See previous image).

Cool, I’m visiting home in a couple of months and staying in Lincoln, so I’ll get the chance to go to the museum.

A great capture, by those number of bombs stamped on, it did a fair bit of work.
