Picking up Gurkhas in Borneo
Acrylic on canvas board 24×18″ 1999

The young airman in the door joined the RAF the same time as me at the tender age of 15-16 years old way back in the early 50s. Unfortunately he died of cancer a couple of years ago leaving a wife with young children.
I was pleased she has a painting on the wall, which I’d painted, to keep fresh the memory of her husband and the children’s father.

My main interest is painting Aviation Art.
I get a lot of enjoyment researching the historical background behind the picture I’ve been commissioned to paint.
I work in acrylic on my big paintings on canvas board but use water colors, pastels, soft and oil, for smaller pieces.
I also enjoy doing pet portraits in soft pastels on tinted paper, from photographs. Ideal presents for Xmas and birthdays.

I was a U.S. Marine and we used a similiar twin rotor CH-47 (not quite as long in the fuselage.) this is a great piece of work with the rotor wash bending the palms back. beautiful color. well done.

Terrific work Neil – a picture that paints a thousand words.

  • Hi Estelle
The Gurkhas are in the news today about their pensions. I did 14 years in the RAF and I don’t get a pension!!
