Minnie the Moocher by Woodie

Halifax B MkIII, 158 Sqdn, NP-M, “Minnie the Moocher”. March 1944 on a return from another bombing raid. I can remember still what “Mick” Medcalf, said in 1992 about that return journey. He said that “the clouds were tipped with pink” as I tried to depict in the painting. I can’t remember his position but he wasn’t the pilot. The nose-art is of a scantly dressed film actress. I met him in a pub in Corbridge, Northumberland, to hand the painting over.
Acrylic, on Daler canvas board, 25×15 inches. 1992.

My main interest is painting Aviation Art.
I get a lot of enjoyment researching the historical background behind the picture I’ve been commissioned to paint.
I work in acrylic on my big paintings on canvas board but use water colors, pastels, soft and oil, for smaller pieces.
I also enjoy doing pet portraits in soft pastels on tinted paper, from photographs. Ideal presents for Xmas and birthdays.

What a wonderful, evocative painting of a 158 squadron Mk III Hali. So glad you put this up on RB to keep alive the memory of those brave men.
