Good pencil drawing Neil, a proper aeroplane with propellers!

  • Woodie replied

This was the first prop job I’d flown in for ages but when I looked up Dash8 when I got home I realised that this Canadian a/c had been designed (and selected by BE) for flying in mountains. The pilot has more control over his engines (slow turning turboprops). Neil

I like the feel of this picture, nicely drawn. – Olive

  • Woodie replied

    Hi Olive
Now that I’ve seen a photo of my drawing I think I’ll try some soft pastel to smooth the pencil lines out a bit.
    Cheers Neil

excellent drawing. I suppose it’s good to have a plane that flies around mountains! LOL

  • Woodie replied

    Hi,
I was careful to say fly around mountains and not fly in mountains.LOL

You bring back to memory of my flying from here – in a very violent lightening storm. Nice study in pencil Woodie.

  • Woodie replied

    Hi Brian
The last time we flew to Salzburg we had to fly round in a circle (well triangle) for an hour before it was OK to land because of the weather.
    Cheers Neil

I want to accept this into the EEG not as an ekphrasis piece as such [although your artistic depiction of the aviation designer’s art is stunning … but to wish people who may be flying anywhere for the holidays a very safe flight! [Santa especially or the kids will never get over it!]
and for anyone travelling anywhere to have a very safe trip we want you to enjoy Christmas now & always!
    Chookas my friend!

Love this image! Air Niugini uses these to fly around Papua New Guinea, a kinda mountainous country. I flew for a subsidiary of Air Niugini, Douglas Airways, which used to fly Britten Norman Islanders (and Trislanders) around the hills there. (I can just imagine you doing a treatment like this on those aircraft!)

This Belverdere is the nearest to jungle flying.

I’ve posted a few in my portfolio, Neil. Also, there’s a sequence of a landing on my website (www.twistedirony.com). Other than that, I haven’t posted any more here because all my photos (hundreds!) were shot on film through grimy, sun-crazed windscreens just over 20 years ago, and some are a bit blurred what with camera-shake and aircraft movement, not exactly RedBubble quality.
