The Notre-Dame Basilica located in Old Montreal at the Place d’Armes and constructed between 1824 thru 1829. The interior designed by Victor Bourgeau in 1869, was completed around 1880.
Notre-Dame’s parish priest, Benjamin-Victor Rousselt and Bourgeau commissioned a Frenchman, Henri Bouriche, for the altar piece sculptures.
The sculptures, pictured here… left, Moses places an urn full of manna in the Ark of the Covenant, to the right, Aaron sacrifices a lamb. At the very top of the altarpiece, Mary is seen being crowned by her son.
