Col. Seth Warner led a group of American Milita to defend the rebel storehouse from an attack by the British forces of Genenal John Burgoyne.
The battle took place in what is now Wallomsack NY and was fought, August 14 – 16, 1777. Burgoyne needing to restock sent forces to secure the supplies in the American storehouse at Bennington.
The British forces were driven off, defeated, by the American forces.
General Burgoyne was forced to press on to the north with finite supplies and was roundly defeated at the Battle of Saratoga, October of 1777.
Historians believe that the inability to secure supplies at Bennington, along with the losses to the troops involved, contributed greatly to the surrender by General Burgoyne at Saratoga.
