    “What exactly is a matrix? “
    I was referring to a pattern where you repeat the image again and again to create a long row, then repeat that row downwards to make a huge column.
    How well it works depends on the edges and the sliced bits of the original image there. It can be designed so that these neatly intermesh with one another so that the actual boundaries aren’t obvious.
    A added twist sometimes used is to horizontally flip each second image so that mirror halves are joined.
    The simple image editing program IrfanView (free) has this set up as a procedure, and is easy to use.
