Artist Statement for Woodbine.
My visual perception, the ability to interpret the information and try to recreate atmosphere, emotions, and moment’s in time or to make a statement via oil paint is my pleasure and my passion. The freedom of choice in how the reconstruction takes place is absolute.
Inspired by the composition, structure, colour and detail of nature. Painting all living things suits my technique and my style. After blocking the main colours of the subject, I then use a range of deeper, lighter hues, often mixing different colours on the canvas to create lines, forms and shades. To bring depth, I define each brushstroke with yet another colour defining each minute detail.
My interest in biology and science the colour, structure, shape, size of cells enhances my desire to interpret nature in its most beautiful form.
I like to paint with oil mixed with linseed oil the fluidity of the medium is absolute joy, using metallic oil paint whenever it is fitting brings a majesty to the beauty of the creature. A blank canvas a pallet of paint and a new subject is the most exciting challenge. The first few strokes of Ultramarine and Burnt Sienna mixed with white spirit usually set’s the scene.
To see the reaction of other’s to my work, their pleasure and feedback gives me great pride and satisfaction.
An eclectic range of music helps me to focus and structure the piece.
Direction of my work: To create 3 Dimensional images that look’s real, has the WOW factor.
