In Ohio we eagerly await what we call ‘the January thaw’… a brief period, usually in late January, when it warms enough to give a tease of the coming spring. The thaw arrived about two weeks late this year, but has lasted long enough to melt almost all of the dirt-encrusted snows of the winter, warm our hearts with thoughts of the green to come and give the earth a chance to breathe again before winter’s certain return.
Sometimes the melt provides its own delicate sculptures… even in a melting snowbank in Mansfield, Ohio…
