'suffer little children to come unto me...'
featured in Stained Glass Art
another of my ‘missing images’- several items turned up missing from my portfolio and I will attempt to restore them. full descriptions to follow.
This was among my first major works, nearly life-sized at over five feet high. It is in a small country church in Freedom, Ohio. It was completed in 1978. It is based on the biblical story of Jesus rebuking the disciples for attempting to turn away children trying to see him and reminds us all that a child is closer to the spiritual source in nature, being less jaded and callous than adults. It is by nurturing the child within that we grow closer to our spiritual source… and each other.
'suffer little children to come unto me...' belongs to the following groups:

Beautiful work Doug, the design & colours in the glass are stunning & it portrays a special message. How long did it take to make this piece?

Thank you, Louise. Total project time was around 1000 hours:concept;sketch; full sized drawing;actual construction. It is a foiled work. For those unfamiliar, that means that each piece of glass is hand wrapped with copper foil and the entire panel is then soldered. This differs from older leaded work in that it is a more stable and self-supporting finished panel. By the way, 1000 hours works out to about 40 days and 40 nights… freaky-and the last time I tallied time on any church project. Peace

Thank you for your time and comments.. but mostly for helping revive and hosting the group. Jeffrey & I discussed the possibility of restarting it a few months ago but I’m certain that you and Donna will do a much better job of it! ;-} Peace
