The shepherds kept watch by the side of a hill,
Staying warm by the fire from the desert like chill.
Watching their sheep under the star-dusted sky,
They sat watching the Heavens as the sheep grazed nearby.
They spoke of the livestock under their care
And of the warmth of the fire that they commonly shared.
Keeping watch for the wolves that would kill and destroy,
Wisely anticipating and understanding the enemy’s ploy.
They were shepherds by nature and cared for their flock.
Though some others in anger called them ignorant livestock.
The shepherds lived for their charges at the expense of their lives,
Denying themselves so that all the sheep thrived.
It has never surprised me that the angels appeared
To these lowly shepherds whose hearts were so geared.
The Chief Shepherd knew that they’d honor His birth.
They would understand the meaning of His coming to earth.
After all they had guarded the oft’ wandering sheep.
The same does our Saviour, our souls He still keeps.
Though we often turn back and we go our own way
And we never deserved it, but He keeps us this way.
He leaves the ninety nine and goes for the one
Who can’t seem to get it, and whose soul comes undone.
This Work is a mystery that none can explain,
How He calms and loves and takes away our fear and pain.
He lovingly restores, forgives and refines
Those who are chosen by His Father’s incredible design.
Through trials, even failures we learn to hear His voice.
Through sorrows and disapointments we can learn to rejoice.
So let us reflect on His love this time of the year
And let us draw close without apprehension or fear,
For He ever lives to intercede and He prays for our souls.
He ever lives to love us and He died to make us whole.
That we are ‘being made perfect’ is amazing to me.
Oh turn to Him now, for He longs to make you free!
I am hoping I will see you when our life on earth is through.
Our Father sent His Son, Jesus to die for me and you.
