Toco Toucans

Toco Toucans

I consider this a painting, even as it was rendered with colored pencils. There are so many layers that to me, it is kind of like painting, but with velvety dry, instead of wet media.

This is just soooo grand, too! I quite enjoy coloured pencils myself – and I noticed that the really fat, triangular ones which I got for the kids’ little chubby fingers (frightfully expensive but lasting) work best. I can even work on darker papers and the colour will still glow … to be quite honest, I’ve even worked on photocopies (!) with them ;-))

  • Catherine Howell replied

Thnaks very much, Barbara! I love the Derwent Coloursoft Pencils. They are wonderfully soft and very rich. I use Faber Castell Polychromos for detail. They are a harder pencil and I can get a sharper point. I also use Prismacolors and some watercolor pencils.

My dear..I see no reason why your current work won’t be accepted in art galleries…have a go at it, you may be surprised!

  • Catherine Howell replied 14 days ago

You are very kind:) Thank you. I have my painted boxes and pendants in a fall art bazaar exhibition, locally. The gallery saw my art and said maybe in the future they would consider a solo exhibition. My dream is to be accepted into a ‘New York’ gallery. Thank you for your encouragement:)

Reminds me of illiminated texts done by medieval monks, but with more vibrancy and exoticism
