The darkness

Staring into the darkness, weeping
Pulling at the edges, gasping
I fall deep into the darkness
My shrieks heard only by me
The torments laughs back at me
Echoing in the depths
I stare up, dimly dumbly
A shimmering patch of light, a touch of moon kissed beauty
I grasp at the walls, and they are devoured at my touch
Dirt packs under the nails, as I desperately try to climb
The filth showers down around me, and I tumble again and again
Blood and quick together, my raking claws slowly edge towards the surface
I feel it on my back
The shadow
It screams at the touch of light, and digs it’s nails in deep
It’s always been there, the hunchback that snarls in my soul
The blackness deep inside me, that only I can see
I’ve tried to draw its claws, but they bite too deep, hurt too much
As ever it weighs me down
I feel my purchase slipping
I howl with it
We fall together
Never to rise again
